It seems that with the kids out of school there’s a LOT more energy abounding over the Christmas holidays. I suggest you consider this the period of time that you take a vacation in your own neck of the woods and go out and do a few “touristy” things to try to burn off that energy.

It’s funny so many of us never visit the tourist attractions that are in our own back yards.

I think with our 7 year old, the school day is just packed with activity. Everything is scripted, they have 15 minutes for this, 20 minutes for that, 30 minutes for something else…. all day. On a vacation it seems as though they find more than they need to entertain themselves. Take a look around the local community and see what interesting holiday activities are going on, parades, concerts, shows, etc. Don’t expect they’ll sit still through all of those, but treat it like your own mini vacation.

If you expect that is how things will be, it may help you get through the season a little less frazzled.

Treat it like a mini-vacation and see how much easier things get to be.
